Solid surface countertops are made from materials that are solid throughout the entire thickness. Solid surfaces make use of acrylic, polyester, or a combination of the two. Both are types of heavy-duty plastic commonly used in other household fixtures such as tubing and bathroom ware. Acrylic is usually considered superior in durability and quality compared to polyester.
Granite Stone Products
Granite is the signature rock of the continents. More than that, granite is the signature rock of planet earth itself. Among all the rock and mineral formations found in the earth's crust, granite stands in the happy intersection of materials that are both highly desirable and widely abundant. Found throughout the world as a major component of the earth's crust, granite proves useful in a wide variety of building and decorative applications thanks to its natural resistance to heat, weather, etching, and staining.
While most people recognize the general appearance of granite--typically a coarse-grained, multicolored rock--not everyone is aware of the key mineral components that define granite. First, granite is made of large mineral grains (which is where its name came from) that fit tightly together.
Second, granite always consists of the minerals quartz and feldspar, with or without a wide variety of other minerals (accessory minerals). The quartz and feldspar generally give granite a light color, ranging from pinkish to white. But that light background color is punctuated by the darker accessory minerals.
Thus, classic granite has a "salt-and-pepper" look. The most common accessory minerals are the black mica biotite and the black amphibole hornblende. Third, almost all granite is igneous (it solidified from a fluid state) and plutonic (it did so in a large, deeply buried body or pluton). The random arrangement of grains in granite and its lack of fabric is evidence of its plutonic origin.
Rock with the same composition as granite can form through long and intense metamorphism of sedimentary rocks. But that kind of rock has a strong fabric and is usually called granite gneiss.
Marble Stone Products
Marble is made from the metamorphism (which is a type of crystallizing process) of different sedimentary carbonate rocks. These rocks are usually dolomite or limestone rock.
After the crystallizing process is complete, the rocks have a new structure which is called marble. The intricate detail you often see in marble is not man-made, it is the small crystals of rock that fused together to make the marble. The veins and swirls on the marble are caused by various mineral impurities such as clay, silt, or sand that may at one point have been a sedimentary layer in the limestone.
There are many different types of marble depending on what area you get the material from and what rocks metamorphosed to create the marble. The color of marble can vary from black and white to green depending on what areas the rocks fuse crystallize together.
Whatever is mixed in with the limestone decides the final color of the marble. If limestone is pure, you get white marble. If it has hematite or clay in it, you will get a reddish color marble. Marble that has limonite is yellow, and marble with serpentine is green. Most marble is large grained and comes in many colors.
Quartz Stone Products
Quartz countertops are an engineered stone product available in unique and exciting colors. You'll often find quartz and quartzite in FL used in residential and commercial kitchen and bath applications. Quartz countertops offer colors and patterns that are not found in granite or any other natural stone. Quartz countertops are made by mixing and compressing natural quartz derived from granite and epoxy resins, Quartz countertops are molded and milled to standard sizes and thickness but can easily be manufactured to custom specifications.
Quartz countertops are very low maintenance, do not require polishing, and are impervious to stains, oils, and burns that would permanently scar natural porous stone materials. For those who prefer a consistent pattern through an entire countertop, quartz countertops are an ideal choice as they have a uniform pattern compared to granite which has an almost unlimited variety of patterns, colors, and movements.
One advantage to using quartz countertops is that they are easily matched up at the seams without a shift in the pattern or color that can sometimes occur with granite. Does this spark an idea? Call Alpha Granite & Marble today for your countertops made of quartz and quartzite in FL.

Caesarstone Products
Caesarstone is a man-made stone that consists of approximately 95% of quartz, which is one of the most common minerals found in the earth's crust. The other 5% of Caesarstone is a mixture of polymer resins and coloring.
Silestone Products
Silestone is a man-made solid surface countertop made of quartz, resin for binding, and pigment (or color). There are many manufacturers of quartz countertops, but Silestone is unique in that it incorporates a layer of germ and bacteria protection in the molecular level of the countertop during production. This protection is called Microban and doesn't wash away or fade with use.
